Finding Magic in the Great Outdoors
Hello friends!
People often ask me where I find the ideas for my colorful patterns. The truth is, my biggest secret is just remembering to look down at my feet and up at the sky!
When my brain feels a little stuck, I put on my favorite walking shoes and head outside. Nature is the best artist in the whole world. Have you ever really looked at a leaf? They aren't just green—they are speckled with yellow, shaped like little hearts or tiny jagged teeth, and full of zigzagging lines.
I love looking for "accidental art" on my walks. A puddle reflecting a bright blue sky, the funny shape of a cloud that looks exactly like a sleeping puppy, or the perfect color combination of a bright pink flower sitting next to a bright orange ladybug. I always bring a little notebook with me to sketch these shapes before they float or fly away.
The next time you are outside, try playing a game of "I Spy" with colors and shapes. You might be surprised by the beautiful things you find waiting to be drawn.
What is the most colorful thing you've seen outside today?
